Association of Private Universities of Japan (APUJ) Visits UMI

KUI-UMI Makassar – Association of Private Universities of Japan (APUJ) visits Universitas Muslim Indonesia (UMI) Makassar and it takes place at the UMI office, the 9fl on January 27th 2016. As representatives from APUJ, the General Secretary Hidebumi Koide and Keiko Sukashita are accompanied by the head of Japan Consulate of Makassar Mr. Masaki Tani.

The head of Wakaf UMI Foundation H.M.Mokhtar Noer Jaya, accompanied by the vice rector for planning and cooperation Prof.Dr.H.Ma’ruf Hafidz, SH., MH, the head of International Office Affairs of UMI Hj. Setyawati Yani,ST.,MT.,Ph.D, the head of Public Relation of UMI Dr.Hj.Nurjannah,S.S., M.Pd, the vices rectors, the deans and head of units within UMI.

Hidebumi Koide in his speech stated, Association of Private Universities of Japan (APUJ) was found in 1946 and it fosters 385 foundation and 411 universities and colleges. It is more than 60% of private universities in Japan are joining with APUJ.

“Private universities are not inferior to public universities. It is more than 70% of Japanese students who go to private universities,” he said.

The head of Wakaf UMI Foundation H.M.Mokhtar Noer Jaya said, UMI is the oldest and the biggest private university in the eastern Indonesia. UMI has 14 faculties, 54 study programs, 5 campuses, and postgraduate program. UMI is ready to take a chance in building cooperation with APUJ related to education, research and community services.

“UMI has some areas and fields such as agriculture, fishery, informatics engineering, industrial technology, Letters, and many more. In fact, we have been offered to have a cooperation with a university in Japan to send lecturers in Bahasa Indonesia mastery, they will come from Faculty of Letters of UMI who will teach Bahasa Indonesia in Japan,” he said.

It is expected that there will be a cooperation built between UMI and APUJ in some areas, particularly to rice production (for Faculty of Agriculture) and Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences.
